It has been an amazing first year here at Stephanie A Smith Photography. Our business continues to grow and expand while we continue to meet amazing people and capture their most important memories. With growth comes change, and I am excited to announce we have found a new blog to call home. Blogger has been great but we recently decided to move over to Wordpress so that you can see many more full sized images and be able to share your thoughts much easier than before.

There are alot of things that I loved about Kim and Tom. For starters, I loved the fact that when Kim was finished getting her hair done at the salon, she jumped in my car and we drove together over to the hotel. I loved the fact that Kim's nieces were the cutest little supermodels/ flower girls that could strike a pose at a moments notice. I loved Tom's reaction when he saw Kim walking down the aisle. I loved all the family and friends that gathered, danced, went in the photo booth, and let their guard down for pictures. And I loved being a part of their wedding. Rose and Neal ~ Tampa Wedding Photographer

Rose and Neal were one of those couples who just wanted to have fun, create fond memories, and enjoy the beautiful beach during their wedding. Being from Great Britain its not everyday they get to experience beach weather with West Coast sunsets. Their Holiday started over in Disney where they spent the first few days around Orlando. The next stop was the beautiful Don CeSar hotel where they spent another week. It was here that they were married. Rose wore a gorgeous coral colored dress and Neal matched her perfectly with a light linen suit and pink boutonniere. I had two favorite memories from this wedding. The first was Rose calling her mom immediately following the ceremony. Rose's parents couldn't attend the wedding however Rose was in constant contact with her mom who helped with every detail of the wedding. The other favorite memory was Neal's ball and chain. Rose purchased this toy while in Disney and thought it would make for a great photo opt. I must say, this was my first ball and chain photo opportunity. Neal was a great sport who played along well for the pictures. I was crippled with laughter by the end of the shoot. All in all it was a beautiful ceremony with many fond memories and new experiences that I hope Rose and Neal will carry with them forever.

Anthony & Michelle's Rehearsal ~ Tampa Wedding Photographer

Anthony and Michelle invited me to their wedding a few months ago. It felt a little weird accepting the invitation as a guest.

I am the girl who works behind the scenes at a wedding, not attends them. Then an even greater issue arose, what do I get them?

Sure they were registered at various stores but I wanted to do something a little different. It worked out perfectly when

they told me their photographer wasn't going to be able to shoot the rehearsal. I stepped right in and joined them with

their day before the wedding celebrations. The rehearsal itself took place at The Don CeSar. The dinner followed at an

awesome local joint called Cafe Luna. Fun times were had by all both days. Here is a sideshow of my favorite pictures from their rehearsal.

Nicole and Keith ~ Beach Wedding Photographer

I booked Nicole and Keith a long time ago. I thought it different that they were getting married on a Monday, but figured, hey, it gives me more time off on the weekend so why not? It was only when my friends started asking me what my plans were for the Labor Day weekend that I realized I was shooting Nicole and Keith's wedding. And what a wonderful Labor Day weekend it was, as the family and friends had a chance to enjoy a few days off together and then wrap it up with a beautiful wedding. I loved working with Nicole and Keith. They're one of those couples that loves to be photographed. Infact, they left their brunch plates half full so we could step back outside to capture some more moments of the two of them.I had a blast with both of them, and definitely learned alot about Nicole, especially her obsession with the color pink. What a happy day it was and what a happy life I am wishing for the two of them. Here are some of my favorites from their wedding.

Joe and Shelby Engagement Shoot ~ Clearwater Wedding Photographer

I had so much fun with Joe and Shelby on their recent engagement session. The two are getting married on October 11th at the beautiful Sand Pearl Resort. At first, I didn't even think we were going to do an engagement session. However, with some last minute cancellations I was able to meet the two love birds at John's Pass. We had a blast covering all of the boardwalk area and squeezed in just enough time to shoot over to the beach for some sunset shots. Joe and Shelby are so meant for each other and for the beach. I kept joking with Shelby that she reminds me of a mermaid with her bleach blonde hair, big blue eyes, and obsession with the ocean. I think we could've been siren sisters in a past life :) These are my favorite images captured from our shoot. I definitely tried to encompass that 60's California beach vibe with my processing. I had so much fun with a bunch of new actions and textures. LOVE photoshop and can't wait to do more with their wedding :)

Stacey and Soren ~ Saw Grass Lake Park

What a great adventure I had with Stacey and Soren on Saturday, September 5th. They planned on marrying underneath these huge oak trees

in Saw Grass Lake Park. However, the torrential down pour limited us with our outdoor locations. So we sat in the car for a little bit to see if the

afternoon rain storm would subside. It didn't, in fact it only got stronger. But with their laid back personalities it didn't matter where they

got married. They chose this beautiful little gazebo surrounded by the lake. Nan, from Ceremonies by Nan performed the ceremony. And as Nan

pronounced them husband and wife the rain came down harder than I have ever heard before. Perhaps as if to say congratulations to the newlyweds.

It wasn't long after that, that the sun burst through. I had such a blast with these two lovebirds and their family. Here is a sideshow of my favorite

Nelly and Mark ~ Tampa Palms Country Club

A big congratulations to Nelly and Mark Weldon. They married months earlier, however, on Saturday, August 29th, they gathered all their friends and family together to celebrate their union. The atmosphere was fun and light at the Tampa Palms Country Club. They had a steel drum serenading the guests during the cocktail hour followed by a full band at the reception. Whether you wanted to eat, drink, dance or gamble, there was something for everyone. I had a blast with Nelly and Mark, especially when catering coordinator, Jeannelle Rossano, told us we could take the golf cart around the Tampa Palms golf course for some sunset pictures. Dallas and Rob Engagement Session

As Dallas asked her boyfriend, Rob, if they could get up early to watch the sunrise, she had no idea that he would propose to her. And little did she know that as she was looking for seashells to decorate the sand castle, Rob would be giving her a shell filled with her future. As she took the clam shell and flipped it over to place it on the castle she realized the ring inside and Rob down on one knee.

I've known Dallas since she was little, so when my mom called me screaming that she was engaged I was overwhelmed with excitement. Down on vacation from Philadelphia, Rob, Dallas and the whole family were enjoying the sun, golfing, and beaches that Florida has to offer. I knew we also had to squeeze in an engagement session while they were still here. I met them in Clearwater and we went all over. I had such a blast with these two. They were so fun and willing to pose for a ton of pictures. Here are my favorite from the batch.

Jenny and Kenny ~ St. Pete Beach Wedding Photographer

They came to Florida to get away from their Northern world. They wanted a tropical island, destination style wedding. They had planned an outdoor ceremony surrounded by swaying palm trees and the sound of lapping water onto the sand. Unfortunately, the swaying palm trees were blowing a little too hard with the fast approaching storm. Ah yes, the joy of a tropical summer. Heat and sun all day followed by an afternoon shower. The indoor ceremony didn't bother Jen or Ken one bit as they never glanced out the window. For they only had eyes for each other. And as the new Mr. and Mrs. Adair took their first kiss and exited the room, the clouds opened and the sun broke through. The rest of the evening was marvelous, with stunning family and bridal party pictures. The sunset was on par as the couple walked hand in hand along the now subdued Gulf. Jenny and Kenny were such a beautiful couple who were amazing to work with. They deserved nothing but the best weather and deserve nothing but the best life together. Congratulations you two. Thanks for letting me be a part of your day!

Favorite Tabitha and Todd ~ Tampa Wedding Photographer

I loved Tabitha and her mom, Kim, from the moment I met them. The wedding was planned within weeks of the date. And as I sat down with them for the first time over a cup of coffee I realized that I would be seeing them sooner than later, as the wedding date was 17 days away.

Family, and closest of friends gathered outside the Don CeSar to witness Tabitha and Todd's wedding. It felt like a family reunion and wedding combined. Everyone stayed after the ceremony to pose for pictures and catch up with loved ones whom they hadn't seen in years. That is the beautiful thing about a wedding. It not only brings two lives together but in most cases, family members and long lost friends together. Finally the crowds dwindled and all that was left was Tabitha, Todd, and I. And boy did we have a blast. Tabitha brought her sass to the table and was willing to do anything in the pictures. And Todd, being the awesome sport he was, went along with all of the ideas. I really enjoyed this couple and their family. Tabitha and Todd, thank you so much for letting me into your lives, I really enjoyed being a part of your special day. Back To Reality ~ St. Pete Beach Wedding Photographer

I have always been the girl who wants nothing to do with anything besides the beach, especially when it comes to vacation. My idea of getting away is, ironically enough, going to a different beach, and testing out their sand and relaxing environment. It was slightly out of character for me to decide on a trip to Maine, however, my dog was allowed to come with me, and I couldn't beat the accommodations. I must admit, the scenery took my breath away. And apparently, I couldn't have picked a better time of year to visit. The earlier summer months brought endless weeks of rain, and only now, did the locals begin to praise their summer in Maine.

I had an amazing trip and hope to get back soon. I can only imagine how gorgeous their Fall is going to be. The foliage will probably be insane due to all the rain. Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the trip including two from the beautiful St. Anne's church in Kennebunkport, Maine. My dad swears I'm going to get married there. I can only laugh at comments like that and continue to live in the moment, and for the most part, the beach.

Out Of The Office ~ August 19th - August 27th

It happens to the best of us. We work, and work, and work. But once in a while it becomes super apparent that you need to step away from all that working so you can appreciate other things that life has to offer. That being said, I'm excited to announce, I'm going on vacation!!! My dog and I will be getting out of town and retreating to a much more cooling environment....Although I'm sure anything is cooler than Florida in August :) However, there is alot to blog about when we get home including the beautiful wedding of Tabitha and Todd, an engagement session with Dallas and Rob, and a beach wedding with Jenny and Kenny. Congratulations Dana and Randy ~ Tampa Wedding Photographer

Saturday, August 2nd marked the beginning of a new season. Florida summer. Yes, it gets well into the 90's by May, however you don't feel the dead head until around August. Sure enough, August 1st, I walked outside and was bombarded by oppressive heat and humidity....and it was only 9 a.m. I was slightly nervous that Dana and Randy's wedding might be the same scenario weather. However when the ceremony started I felt this breeze lightly grazing the beach. It was refreshing enough to enjoy being outside. Dana and Randy were married in a beautiful setting outside of the Don CeSar Beach Resort. There, they were surrounded by their closest friends and family members. It was a beautiful wedding and gorgeous sunset. I even got a little chuckle when Randy said the temperature wasn't so bad. They were too blissful to notice anything else but each other. Dana and Randy, congratulations and make sure to keep that bliss with you wherever you go.

I love to dance. Ever since I can remember, if there was music within ear shot I would be dancing...or at least bopping my head to the beat of the song. That being said I love to capture moments during the reception when people let loose, dance, and truly become themselves. It's so freeing.This point typically occurs when the stress of the day is winding down, and the consumed beverages from the cocktail hour have kicked in. No matter if it's the first dance, or 500th dance, whether you are leading a group or just kicking it by yourself, dancing is a liberating experience. The pictures below are some of the dance sessions I was able to capture from Amy and Michael's wedding.

I stepped out of my car. The sun was shinning bright and hot. As I lugged my camera equipment through the heat and humidity, sweat dripping down my brow, I couldn't have been more excited that Amy and Michael's wedding ceremony and reception were taking place inside. They married July 25th, 2009 at The Don CeSar Beach Resort. Amy and her family had been sick the entire week prior to the wedding. But cough and congestion was not going to hinder a thing. Amy powered through without hesitation. We were able to get some amazing shots both inside and out. What a wonderful event to be part of. Amy and Michael I wish you nothing but the best together, thank you for letting me be a part of your special day. And a special thanks for the wonderful Jennifer Fitzsimmons, amazing wedding coordinator and owner of a Friend of the Bride, as well as Chad Whelan, owner of Digital Wave Video Productions. Rehearsal Dinner ~ Black Palm Restaurant

Friday, July 24th I had the pleasure of joining Amy, Michael, and their family at the Black Palm Restaurant in Pass-a-grille. For it was there they held their rehearsal dinner. Spanish style music serenading the guests as the wine and food flowed freely. The service was spot on and the environment was warm and friendly. It was a great way to ease into the weekends worth of activities. The very next day I joined them again for a full days worth of shooting as Amy and Michael married at the Don CeSar. Brandy and Troy ~ 7.17.09

On the evening of Friday, July 17th Brandy and Troy became Mr. and Mrs. Preston. No longer individuals but rather a couple, a family, and an endless support of love and laughter. I received an email from Brandy not ten days before her wedding. She was looking for a photographer and was so excited to tell me about her family, her soon to be family and the location of the wedding which was held in the Penthouse at the Don CeSar. The day was beautiful, and the wedding was gorgeous. Two of my favorite standouts from the wedding were Troy's yorkie, Ronnie, who was part of the processional as well as family portraits and the children. They were all so beautiful and welcoming to the new family dynamics, especially the boys. I could not take enough photos of them :) Here are some of my favorite shots from the wedding.

Tish and Dan ~ Engagement Session

I have always wanted to do an engagement session in Pass-a-grille. I think that its quaint atmosphere and charming shops create for a fun backdrop. I was all to excited when Dan and Tish said they would be happy to meet me down there for their session. I has such a blast with them. And while sometimes it is a little difficult for guys to loosen up in front of the camera, Dan did an awesome job. But he had an amazing coach, Tish, who made him laugh and smile along the way. I'm super stoked to shoot their wedding in April at the Sirata Beach Resort. And I think that we are even going to plan a dog portrait session as they have a pack of three! I had the pleasure of meeting Shannon and her family not once, but twice for family photos. Down on vacation from Ohio we initially set the shoot for Wednesday, July 8th. Unfortunately we were rained out, however since they drove all the way down to Pass-a-grille I wanted to say hi. I fell in love as soon as I met them. The three boys were absolutely adorable. Ranging in age from 1 - 6 years I took a liking to the oldest. He grabbed my hand as we crossed the street to check out the beach. I really wanted to shoot that night but the relentless sprinkling deterred us.Needless to say I was ecstatic when Friday came around with bright sunshine. Here are some of my favorite shots.

Tampa Marriott Airport Shoot

Last Tuesday I had the pleasure of photographing 5 gorgeous girls at the Tampa Airport Marriott. Most people don't have high expectations for airport hotels however this one blew me away. I shot with about 20 other amazingly talented wedding photographers. Our goal was simple. To get some great shots and have a good time. Mission accomplished. A big congratulations to Ana and Ionut who were married Friday, July 3rd at the Don CeSar Beach Resort. They came all the way from Romania to get married ( I guess the beaches aren't the same over there :) Ana was a stunning bride that was all smiles the day of the wedding.I had so much fun with her and her sister, Dana while getting ready. I later learned that Ana is a model in Romania (no surprise there as she hit her poses every time I picked up the camera).I literally had dozens of photos I wanted to post. I'm talking a top 20 list, and even then it was difficult to narrow it down. Finally got the numbers down a little bit. Here are my favorites.

2009's Brady Bunch

As Susan walked with her mom down the sandy aisle, Steve was beaming from ear to ear. No musical accompaniment was necessary as Susan and Steve have their own little band....6 kids! As they hummed the melody of "Here Comes The Bride" I couldn't help but smile. Here are two people, each bringing their own life to the table and its embraced and accepted by everyone. In fact when shooting the family it was hard to decipher which children belonged to whom. Susan, Steve, and company I wish you the best of luck in your family.Keep that love that is so apparent going forever. Thanks for letting me capture your special day.

2nd Shooting

On Friday, June 26th I had the opportunity to second shoot for a super talented wedding photographer, Justin Demutiis. Since Justin was going to be covering the bride and bridesmaids preparation I was given the assignment of photographing the groom and his trusty groomsmen. Hmmmm. a bunch of handsome guys in tuxes and I have to photograph them, its tough being me, I know :) George and his crew were awesome. We were able to capture some super fun moments, and then once the shooting was complete, the boys decided to order pizza. Can my job get any better? The ceremony took place at Incarnation Catholic Church and the reception followed at Heritage Springs Golf and Country Club. Both, beautiful venues, and places were I have never shot before. Justin, thanks for letting me shoot with you, I had a blast. And George and Miranda, Congratulations and thanks for letting me tag along with Justin.

Kerry and Adam ~ June 21, 2009

Kerry contacted me about two months ago. Her ideal was a big wedding back in her hometown. However, the plans changed a little when Kerry and her fiance found out they were expecting. Thus came the more intimate beach wedding on St. Pete Beach. While she wasn't having a huge gala as planned, she still wanted to have the special details that are custom with every wedding. Flowers, white dress and a photographer. I was really excited to work with Kerry and Adam because they were all about the photographs. Even with Kerry, 5 months pregnant, she was willing to go anywhere and do anything. You go girl :) Here are some of my favorite from that shoot. It was hot. With the temperatures nearing triple digits, the humidity just as bad, and not a cloud in the sky, I was so thankful to be walking into the air conditioning, where the ceremony and reception were taking place. Michelle and Ralph were married at Maggiano's Little Italy on Saturday, June 20, 2009. The closest of friends and family gathered around to join in on the festivities. Michelle and Ralph were so much fun to work with. Every time they looked at one another they burst into laughter, making it easy to capture candid moments. Congratulations you two.

Abby and Bryan 6.18.09

I knew she looked familiar! She looked like a beautiful actress but what was her name? It's like something on the tip of your tongue that you just can't get out. Well, finally , after a little googling, I got it. My bride Abigail is the spitting image of Hollywood superstar Julianne Moore. Abby, aka Julianne, Bryan, 13 month old daughter, Sydney, and the closest family and friends gathered on the white sandy beaches in front of the Don CeSar to witness the marriage of Abby and Bryan. It was a beautiful evening. The sky was overcast which to some may seem horrible, however, June in Florida, I'm not complaining. It probably kept the temperature at least 7 degrees cooler. And from a photographer's perspective it also gave a very even soft light on my subjects. Abby and Bryan were awesome to work with. They were so laid back and easy going. Even their daughter was a little love. She had a thing for the sand, and constantly wanted to eat it. But I guess if you're from Wisconsin you want to get as much of the beach as possible.Congrats Abby and Bryan.

Cake Etiquette

Cutting the cake has always remained somewhat of a mystery. Should the bride and groom gently feed each other the first bite? Or should they go for the guts and smear it everywhere. Out of all my weddings I have never seen an "all out smashing" cake session. That being said, when I shot Jake and Krissy I had a hunch something would happen. Most of the time, the groom goes first, and as the Dj's relays, "this will set the tone for the rest of your marriage". No pressure right? As Jake wound back real far and went in for the feed I knew Krissy was gonna get it. Yet surpringly he gently placed most of it in her mouth while succesfully landing some of the icing on her nose. Well played my friend! But oh how the story changed when Krissy went up to bat. Needless to say the pictures speak for themselves. And regardless of the feeding frenzy make sure to always kiss, make up, and walk away hand in hand underneath a beautiful sparkler shower.

Jake and Krissy married earlier this month at the beautiful Don CeSar Beach Resort. It was a gorgeous Friday evening with a stellar sunset. Jake and Krissy were some of the most laid back people I have met. They wanted everything to be about having a good time with their friends and family. And with a bridal party of 16 they were bound to have a blast. They are now off to the sunny island of St. Lucia. Have a great time you guys !

New CD Cases

I'm very excited to announce we have new cases for our high resolution CD's. The wonderful Ms. Lindsey Luxa with Dragon Fly Custom Design was the brains behind the creation. I couldn't be happier with how they turned out. Plus, they are made with faux silk and natural raffia tie meaning they are pretty eco-friendly. As you can see there are two slots. One slot is to hold the CD, and the other holds my favorite a 5 x 7 of the couple. Featured above in the pictures are Christina and Wes Kercher married on May 24th, 2009. So far the reviews have been great. Thanks Lindsey for all your hard work. I love the style and vibe they give off. Truly me :)

After the Party There's An After Party

So the celebration for Jonathan didn't end at the temple. Saturday, May 29th was Jonathan's birthday bash held at the beautiful Marriott Sand Key. There was food, fun, games, a photo booth set up, and DJ Jeff who kept those kids entertained all night long. It was a beautiful night, the weather was perfect. And to top it all off it was island themed, so all the kids had Rasta hats on. Now that was my type of party :) Again, congratulations Jonathan.

Congratulations to Jonathan who celebrated his 13th birthday last week. 13 is big because the teenage years officially begin. But more importantly, it marked his commitment to his faith as he celebrated his bar mitzvah. This, being my first synagogue shoot I was slightly apprehensive. However, it was a wonderful experience to be a part of. The ceremony took place at Congregation Beth Shalom , a beautiful Temple in Clearwater. The Rabbi was wonderful. And the stained glass windows inside are a photographers dream. Here are some of my favorite shots from that evening.

I love shooting intimate size weddings. I feel that I have a little more time to experiment with pictures at different angles and new locations. This bride and groom were more than willing to let me experiment, such brave souls:) Lowren and David did not want to see each other before the wedding. They were okay with not seeing each other but being almost next to one another, hence my first idea of holding hands with a wall in between them. They were also okay with my second experiment of photographing the video recorder which was shooting them. Out of all my requests they only had one. To do an O-H-I-O posed picture for their friends and family back home. Lowren and David, congratulations on your wedding and thank you so much for allowing me to photograph your wedding as well as be a little experimental with my shots.

The guests of Christina and Wes were bold, beautiful and bright with their attire, and I loved it. The favorite outfit award goes to.....(drumroll please) Ruth (Christina's sister) and her handsome husband !!! It's no surprise that this beautiful couple hail from Miami. They brought style and life to the wedding along with their three beautiful children. Acutually its funny, because in this image, both their eyes were closed. I wasn't sure what else to do so I decided to crop it and focus solely on their attire.

So as I had said earlier, Christina was calm and happy the entire day as she entered bridal bliss. Her soon to be husband, Wes, was a totally different story. The yang to her ying. He was happy alright, I just had a little trouble finding him at first. Turns out he was just on what's known as "Wes time". Once found, we were able to get some great and some goofy shots of Wes and his groomsmen. Their energy was great and created such a light and carefree vibe. Infact it allowed the whole wedding to be a blast. Congratulations Christina and Wes. I hope you keep that carefree and blissful state with you through your many years together.

It was a gorgeous day for a wedding over the Memorial Day weekend. The weather had finally cleared leaving a bright sun with a nice breeze. Nothing could stir Christina. She had planned for months and her day had finally arrived. She was blissfully happy as she went through hair and makeup. Infact, as I recall, she never stopped smiling from the moment I arrived until the moment I left. But why wouldn't she? I am a very last minute person. I procrastinate, I wait until the very last moment until I have to wake up, eat breakfast, and especially do my accounting. That being said, I was completely at a loss for words when I read an email from a bride that was looking for a photographer, Friday afternoon.....It was Tuesday morning when I got the email. Sounds a little last minute but everything worked out. Jillian and Shad were married on Friday, May 22nd at the Double Tree Beach Resort in Redington. The weather even smiled down on this couple as it had been rainy all week. Infact I held my breath as I looked outside Jillian's suite to torrential downpour. However, the sky opened up and it was a beautiful ceremony and reception. Congratulations Jillian and Shad!

This is one of my favorite ring shots of all times. As a photographer I am always looking for a new spot to place the rings in order to capture the essence, the sparkle, and the shine of them. While escorting the couple back to their room we passed a vintage wall piece. A light bulb went off and I startled the couple as I gasped and begged them to to remove their wedding rings. Hesitant at first, they handed them over. I always get a kick out of asking a couple for their rings. It's like saying " Hey, I know you are committed for life with the symbolism of this ring but can you remove the very band that binds you and hand it over to me for a few minutes...I promise I will return them". The rings were returned and the couple was pretty excited about the shot.

Congratulations to the beautiful Cheryl and Vaden. They were married at the Don CeSar Beach Resort on Saturday, May 9th. The sun was bright and the temperature had already climbed well into the 80's yet all that could be felt was love. It was eminent these two had met their mate. Two really great people who loved one another and the family and close friends that surrounded them. I couldn't have asked for better models either. I love receiving feedback from my shoots. There is no better feeling than when you as a photographer like the pictures and then the reassurance of the client equally loving the images soon follows. This is one example. Cinco De Mayo not only marked a great day in which numerous amounts of Corona and Mexican food should be consumed but it also became the day in which Dan and Maureen Anderson declared their love and faithfulness to one another. I had talked to Maureen earlier and she was telling me how excited she was to have these pictures taken as she had never had professional pictures taken of her family before (Dan and Maureen have two beautiful boys Samuel and Jackson). I don't really look at myself as professional, perhaps that's because I can't believe how much fun I have every day with my job, but I reassured her we were going to have a great time and get some awesome shots. About a day after I emailed Maureen, letting her know her images were up online I received an email back. This one simple paragraph meant so much to me.

Hi Stephanie,
I was just going to sit down and write you an email and I see you sent one first. Hope you are doing well. Wow, the photos are unbelieveable . . . We were so pleased and excited to see that these pictures turn out above and beyond our expectations! I have to say, I am quite critical of myself (I'm not photogenic at all), yet I was able to find several where I looked pretty good. The photos of our family are stunning! I have so say, one of my favorite photos was the one of just the boys on those pillows with blue stripes. Stephanie, your creativity and your eye for capturing the moment is a gift. We were blessed to have found you. The photos of just the flowers on the piano or of us just holding hands were unbelievable. Who captures something like that? Amazing!

The Waves Of Life

Let's face it, we all have good days and bad days. There are times in your life where invincibility is all that surrounds you, then within a blink of an eye the reality of humanism comes back to humble you. Love, laughter, sorrow, and suffering is all part of the cycle of life. I try to take each lesson life deals me with a grain of salt. If I can walk away from the situation a better stronger person or have been able to learn something which helps my future than I consider it a success. This morning, I came across this wonderfully written paper on life. Its very suiting that it should come to me today.I hope that it will in turn also encourage you in your life's journey.

How to free yourself from the grip of storms? This is the only basic problem in this universe. The first thing is to become aware of it and stop regretting it. Like waves come and go, storms in your life too will subside. No one storm can be there for ever. One storm comes and subsides, another comes and subsides and it goes on. As the storm subsides, you experience that inner cool, soft, delicate aspect of yourself. In that space of calm, all the anxiety, fear, feverishness lose their grip on you and you become yourself again. Love dawns.

When you stop resisting the storms of life and start accepting them with open arms, they will subside on their own. That is the purpose of all spiritual practices, or sadhana, and meditation. When you realise that somebody really cares for you, you feel at rest and all fears and insecurities drop off.

You keep running away from small things -- your feelings, sensations, desires -- and this leads to more feverishness. Realize that like the ocean cannot be there without the waves, storms are inevitable in your life. Every storm touches you somewhere and makes you grow stronger. A storm pulls you out of your likes and dislikes and purifies you. So accept all that comes with both arms open. Even when the storms come, you are still the same ocean, as deep as ever.

This realization is the culmination of knowledge. When this knowledge dawns, you rise above events; you grow out of them. Everybody in the world goes through crises, insecurities, confusions. It's like drowning in the ocean of life. But the person with the life jacket can survive even the worst turmoil. So keep your life jacket of knowledge handy.

Do not be in a hurry to get rid of the storms, be with them. Looking for perfection creates imperfection inside you. If you are peaceful, everything around you becomes peaceful. You are the center of this universe. Wherever you go, you carry your own mind, and wherever you go, you will create your own storms. It may appear to be calm and quiet for sometime but the storm will surface sooner or later. Unless you realize this, nothing will hold. There is no other permanent solution. Don't resist the storms, instead see them as an amazing play of your personality.

It has been a busy for weeks for Stephanie A Smith Photography. April was filled with corporate events, pet photography and a number of really cool weddings( I am super behind in my blogging). The first of which was Patty and Scott. I worked with Patty a while back so I was all too thrilled when she asked me to be her wedding photographer. Scott and Patty planned on getting married at the Don CeSar, on Friday, April 24th. They are such a fun couple so I knew it was going to be a blast. Yard Sale Find

I am not one of those people who scours the newspaper every weekend in hopes of landing an awesome find at the closest yard sale. I remember what my yard sales looked like when I was a kid. I was getting rid of all my junk. Who would want that? Well, its true what they say "One mans trash is another mans treasure". Check out this super vintage chair I found at a Tuesday afternoon (of all days) Yard Sale. I absolutely love it, and while I have no room for it in my apartment I can see many a photo shoot taking place with this find. AND. It was only $20. Talk about saving money and recycling :)

I am a big fan of doing everything I can to make the earth better. So every April 22nd I get the urge to pick recyclables out of trash receptacles. Sounds disgusting to most people however what I am more disgusted by is the amount of recyclables that go into the normal trash cans. And yes, it is a little awkward walking up to this symbol of dirtiness and sticking your hand in it while beach goers are watching. You get over it though, especially when you completely empty a trash can because its entirety was recyclable( minus the orange peel...but that could be composted!) A special thank you to Quinn Noonan who not only stood by me to photograph the event but also told people what I was doing as we walked past (and got very positive feedback from everyone too). All together we collected 33 glass bottles, 31 aluminum cans, 29 plastic bottles, and 10 plastic containers(stuff like fruit trays and solo cups). This is the equivalence of 14.6 kw/hr....or in human terms, enough power to take 7347 hours of pictures. I encourage everyone to do something green. Also, there will be more beach recycling trips so if you're interested in being one of the few trash pickers let me know!

This past weekend was spent in Philadelphia. There, I celebrated the Easter Holiday with my family. It was a nice trip and I thoroughly enjoyed being home, seeing familiar faces of friends and family members. I returned home on Monday night a little sad but on the other hand "man does it feel good to sleep in my own bed again". These shots are from my second night back in Florida. And I will tell you what, nothing beats this view. I'm glad to be home.

During this past year, Stephanie A Smith Photography has taken on many new transformations. A new website, all new images, new blog, new logo, new camera, etc. Its like I always say " the one thing that remains constant is that life is dynamic". That being said we have added something new to our credentials, children sessions. Last Saturday I had the pleasure of meeting 14 month old Laney Rosenberg and her mom Stacy. They came in to do a photo session showcasing a. how adorable Laney is and b. the beautiful furniture available for kids(four legged or two) at Best Buddies Boutique in downtown St. Petersburg. While I was nervous, I didn't get that same vibe from Laney. Infact, after about 10 minutes she was a supermodel, posing and laughing. Here are some of the shots we were able to capture that afternoon.

Two weeks ago I had the pleasure of capturing Bill and Mary's wedding at the beautiful Don CeSar Beach Resort. The closest of kin was there as well as picture perfect weather. We were able to get some beautiful shots before they headed off to the Maritana Restaurant and continued with the festivities. Even their beautiful granddaughter was on their guest list. Her name is Olive and she was the cutest thing I have ever seen. It was really funny too because in order to get her to smile you had to make this ridiculous noise ( well at least I did). I can only imagine what it looked like from an outsiders perspective. Bill and Mary, you and your family are great and I had a blast with you. Thanks for letting me be a part of your special day.

Kim and Tom in Ybor City

Where has the past month gone?! We have been keeping busy with weddings, puppy portraits and... Kim and Tom's engagement session. After trying to set up a date for the past few weeks we were finally able to get together in Ybor city last Saturday afternoon. It was a blast. We walked all over Centro Ybor and even hopped on the trolley to snap a few shots. The funny thing was, there was a beer festival going on that same afternoon where hundreds of people gathered to taste Tampa's best brews. I don't think it affected the two lovebirds at all. When Work Gets The Best Of You Sometimes You Just Have Sit Back And Think Like A Dog

So I have no idea where January and February have gone but it has been busy. The people contacting us, the last minute editions, the editing, the emails, faxes, contracts and deposits are all hitting at once. I am not complaining at all but sometimes it can get a little overwhelming. Today was one of those days where I just had to step away from my computer. As soon as I did that I looked over at my little man, Tito. He is such an awesome dog. I rescued him from Lost Angels Rescue in Tampa and he has been such a blessing. So I sat with him for a little bit and then thought what a neat photo op his would be. Here are a few of my favorite. And it's true, when life gets you down the best thing to do is think like a dog.

1. When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

2. Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

3. Let others know when they've invaded your territory.

4. Take naps and stretch before rising.

5. Run, Romp and play daily

6. Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

7. Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

8. Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.

9.Be loyal. Never pretend to be something you're not.

10.When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close, and nuzzle them gently.

We were able to capture some gorgeous pictures right outside the Don CeSar Beach Resort, and it finally warmed up enabling us to walk all over the property without goosebumps....Well I got goosebumps from some of the pictures. As I lay curled up on my couch this morning shivering because of our ridiculously cold weather I decided to turn on the weather channel to get an exact reading on how brutally cold it was...43 degrees. For Florida that is an awful number to see however just about the time when I was going to let out an explicative about the temperature the news anchor spoke of the even colder numbers up North. The city of Boston is expected to be blanketed by nightfall and my mom told me that it's 17 degrees in Philadelphia and that's the high! So in essence I have alot to be grateful for.This picture represents what I see when I look down at the ground. No snow, no ice or slush, just sand and seashells. Whether 43 or 83 degrees I am so thankful to live in Florida. And for all those who live up North....God Bless You and Stay Warm!

How cool is this pic? Well okay, artistically its nothing to talk about however it is Susie and Ricks wedding cake. A Rubic's cube! Susie surprised Rick with the cake because she knows how much he loves them. Apparently he is so good at it, it only takes minutes to complete as opposed to the grueling hours it takes normal humans (myself included). The top layer is the only part that is real cake, the other layers are Styrofoam and fondue. Now this is what call thinking outside the box!

Good times were had by all on Saturday, December 27th, 2008. It's funny because I thought that I knew exactly what I was walking into that afternoon but I had no idea. Only corresponding with the bride to be, Susie, via email I thought I had an idea of what she was going to look like and the type of person she was. The old saying goes, you can't judge a book by its cover well I shouldn't judge a bride by her email address. When I see numbers in an email address I assume its the persons age so I thought it only correct that I was going to shoot a 54 year old woman's wedding. Not that there is anything wrong with that however with this situation I was way off ! I had a young school teacher who mimicked alot of her wedding decor and attire with a J.Crew style flair. How classy and modern can you get!! We had a blast and it was a gorgeous sunset that evening at the Tradewinds Island Resort in St. Pete Beach. Rick and Susie thanks so much for letting me be a part of your day.

My Holiday Rhyme

Right After Turkey Day

I had an action packed day with the Stinson family on Saturday, November 29, 2008. First, in the morning, we gathered on the beach for the marriage of Cara and Eric. From there, there was lunch up in the Penthouse at the Don CeSar Beach Resort, followed by the guys jumping in the pool in their tux attire!! I can honestly say that is the first and probably last time a groom has jumped or will jump into the pool. The looks on the sunbathers faces were priceless though. After the pool we were able to capture some great family portraits down in Pass-a-grille. the perfect ending to the prefect wedding day. Cara and Eric I had a blast with you two. The love you have for each other and the kids is so eminent, I hope to visit you sometime in Kentucky.

Okay so it has been a while since I've blogged. We have been a little bit busy with our Fall weddings. One would assume there is enough going on during this time of year why also commit to a wedding. It was funny because in the beginning Lisa voiced her concern about not being able to relax in front of the camera. I don't know about you but I think she did just fine.

I had such a blast with this couple last Friday, November 21st. It was the two of them , the officiate, Ms. Jillian Thompson, and myself. Kate and Matthew have been together for a few years and decided to tie the knot before they have to move up North. Traveling all around world they chose the Don CeSar because of it's beautiful architecture and historical background. We were able to capture some great images of the two of them. Kate was a sassy bride who knew how to work the camera. I loved every minute of it because she wasn't afraid to try new things and even thought of some creative poses herself. The weather was perfect on Sunday, November 9th for Lance and Christina. The beautiful couple married at the Don CeSar Beach Resort in front of an intimate group of thirty. Festivities and food followed in the Buena Vista Room. It was a wonderful event. Lance and Christina were so great to work with and so much fun. Ironically enough, the groom is a sports photographer up in Wisconsin. It was interesting to talk about how we are in the same field yet its so completely different. Okay so I thought this was a humorous picture. As I was shooting Lance and Christina's wedding on November 9th I decided to grab a few moments of them together post ceremony. The only problem? I failed to notice the incredible shadow that fell on them. I look like I'm 10 feet tall. It reminds me of those Where's Waldos books in which you try and find the hidden Waldo. There I am, on my bride and groom.

Greener Photographer

Ever since I moved to the beach I have become determined to increase the awareness of recycling to those around me. It is so easy to do and it makes such a difference in our world. It makes me sad when I see trash wash up on shore or get caught on wildlife. It breaks my heart to know that that could have easily been avoided. However, as a photographer I didn't realize how much harm I was causing to the earth as well. It's very easy to be careless with the amount of paper, ink, and packaging products I use. This, just like the trash on the beach, adds up to be very destructive to our earth. I am very happy to announce that I am one step closer to being greener. I recently became a member of Greener Photography. It's a wonderful website that helps photographers learn about some of the Eco-friendly alternatives in our business. So far I have already lessened my carbon footprint by using recyclable paper for my business cards and printing paper, as well as using soy based ink for my printer. I encourage all of you to make a difference in life with whatever is important to you. I'm green :)

So as many of you may or may not know, I am a photographer. By looking at my website it would appear that I am a wedding photographer. Well, I am not only a wedding photographer but also a pet photographer for the Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg area. I LOVE IT! I love animals so its just been a blast getting to play with them and photograph them as well. I have met some really cool dogs and "paw-rents" for that matter. Last Saturday I was in Ybor city at the Pets on the Patio event. Similar to a yappy hour, Gaspars Grotto holds an afternoon full of food, drinks, and music for people and their pets. I had a blast with newlyweds Stacy and William Meyer at the Don CeSar Beach Resort Saturday, October 25th. The weather was spectacular. I haven't seen a sunset like they had in months. We were able to capture some wonderful memories that evening. Stacy and William you guys were great! Congratulations and wishing you much love in your future together :)
